6. Preliminary Instructions
a. The instructions outlined in paragraphs 6 and 7 are preparatory to the calibration
process. Personnel should become familiar with the entire bulletin before beginning the
calibration.
b. Items of equipment used in this procedure are referenced within the text by common
c. Unless otherwise specified, verify the results of each test and, whenever the test
requirement is not met, take corrective action before continuing with the calibration. No
adjustments can be made.

NOTE
DA Form 3023 (Gage Record) must be furnished with each
small arms gage that requires certification (Appendix).
NOTE
Gages must be marked with serial number. Method of marking
is optional. However, the marking must not be applied on any
part of the critical measurement area on the gage surface (fig. 1
and fig. 2) or in a manner which could degrade gage function or
cause any damage to gage critical measurement area.
CAUTION
The micrometer is a delicate test instrument. Care must be
used when the anvil and spindle of the micrometer make
contact with the TI. Too much speed in approaching the work
area will result in an inaccurate measurement. Slowly and
gently turn thimble on micrometer until it comes in contact
with the TI. After making contact with TI, continue turning
to turn until thimble begins to turn freely.
